Piotr is an experienced data scientist and manager with a broad-based practice in building and managing interdisciplinary teams.
Before joining Nunatak Capital he was a member of the management board at Luma Investment where he managed the portfolio of industrial companies with a total value of EUR 150M and ran several VC investments in data science companies. Previously, as a member of the management board of PKP Group, he was responsible for executing capital transactions with a, total value exceeding EUR 1B (PKP Energetyka, PKP Cargo, Polskie Koleje Linowe, TK Telekom) and real estate transactions with a total value exceeding EUR 250M. He implemented the most extensive railway transformation program in Poland including multi-billion investments in rolling stock, railways, and railway stations as well as a comprehensive passenger
s service quality improvement program.
Piotr also has gained
a valuable experience in EY where he built and led the Economic Strategy Team, in addition to advising on M&A transactions. He ran several advanced data science p§rojects in commercial banks (Raiffeis sen Bank, Kredyt Bank) and public institutions (National Bank of Poland, Polish Ministry of Finance). He acted as a supervisory board member in many publicly listed, state-owned, and municipal companies. Piotr was awarded a PhD (2008) and a Habilitation (2016) degree in economics from Warsaw School of Economics where he is currently an Associate d Professor and the head of the International Comparative Studies Department. In his academic work, he focuses on the application of advanced machine learning tools for the assessment of economic policies’ impact. He has a number of publications in prestigious international journals like Journal of Economic Geography, Fiscal Studies, or KYKLOS and he received over EUR 500K in grants for his research. As an expert at the National Science Center and Ministry of Science and Higher Education Piotr evaluated several research projects and entities, and coordinated works on strategy for the development of higher education in Poland.
As part of his pro bono activity Piotr has been working for Civil Development Forum since 2007 and in the years 2007-2009, he held the position of vice-president of the Association of Polish Economists. He also engages in various mentoring programs for startups.
